Nashville’s Growing Music Scene

Nashville Music Scene

Maybe this isn’t exactly news, at least to the people that live here – but Nashville continues to be one of the biggest stages for musicians of all genres, not just country… NPR recently ran a story ‘Beyond Country: Not Your Father’s Nashville‘, validating this point.

Even as music sales have continued to decline over the last decade, Nashville has made some major steps forward with new music from rockers and popsters. Musicians such as Jack White (White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, and owner of Third Man Records), Paramore, Kings of Leon and Ben Folds all call Nashville home. These artists are definitely not country, and it proves the fact that Nashville can support successful and progressive music.

Despite the trend towards digital downloads and virtual everything, Nashville continues to grow and be a major producer in today’s music scene. Nashville is recognized as a major gathering spot for music business, labels, artist image development & marketing… To further illustrate how important Nashville is to the music industry, consider this chart by by Martin Prosperity Institute and the US Census Bereau.

Looking at the chart, you will see that Nashville has the highest concentration of Music Industry in North America.

Many people associate Nashville with country music, but its hard to ignore the changing landscape of the music business here especially when NPR picks up the story… Prediction: Nashville will continue to be a place that musicians flock to even in 2010.

If you come visit Nashville, you will find a wide variety of music and plenty of amazing venues… Here are some resources for those interested in catching some quality tunes.

A little personal bias – here are a few of my favorite venues:
